Irene holds degrees in communication and media from Copenhagen Business School in Denmark and Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands. She obtained her degree from the latter in 2017 where she specialised in media and athlete activism. During this time, Irene was also an ambassador for her programme.
Irene is currently doing research into sport, racism and social media with a focus on the United States together with colleagues from the Department of Media and Communication at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Specifically, the research focuses on the revival of black athlete activism in a new media environment.

Christos Kassimeris heads the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at European University Cyprus and is coordinator of the BA in European Politics and Communication. Before joining European University Cyprus, he was teaching European Integration Politics and International Relations of the Mediterranean for three years at the University of Reading. He is the author of European Football in Black and White: Tackling Racism in Football (Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, 2007), Greece and the American Embrace: Greek Foreign Policy Towards Turkey, the US and the Western Alliance (I.B. Ellis Cashmore is probably one of the first researchers to investigate racism in football: in the early 1980s, he conducted a study of the then emerging generation of black athletes who were overachieving not only in British football, but in athletics and boxing too. The research involved indepth interviews with black sportsmen and women and the resulting book (first published 1982) has recently been republished in the Routledge Revivalsseries. He has written books on David Beckham and Mike Tyson as well as the text Making Sense of Sports. Two of his most recent books on football are collaborative efforts Studying Football (with Kevin Dixon) and Football's Dark Side (with Jamie Cleland). He has worked at the universities of Hong Kong, Tampa, USA, and Aston, UK and tweets @elliscashmore

Edoardo Mollona graduated cum laude in Strategic Management at Bocconi University in Milan (Italy) and received a PhD degree in Strategic Management/Decision Sciences at the London Business School. He is currently full professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DISI) at the University of Bologna where he teaches Corporate Strategy and Strategic Modelling. His research interests focus on the application of modeling and simulation techniques to strategic management, stakeholder theory and organizational theory. In particular, Edoardo Mollona conducts research on the evolution and strategic change in large organizations, and on the interplay between corporate strategy and socio-political processes at work in society. Referring to this thread of research, he has published books and journal articles, has been in a number of chairs in national and international conferences, has been responsible for the research unit of the University of Bologna within the collaborative research project sponsored within the 7° EU framework: “Models and their Effects on Development paths: an Ethnographic and comparative Approach to knowledge transmission and livelihood strategies” (FP7-SSH-2007-1) and he currently is the principal investigator of the research project sponsored within the H2020 EU framework PERCEIVE (Perception and Evaluation of Regional and Cohesion policies by Europeans and Identification with the Values of Europe).

Alberto is an applied sociologist (sociological social psychology) of deviance and crime, and Senior Lecturer in Criminology who has achieved, via examination viva and research portfolio, Certified Sociological Practitioner Status (C.S.P.), granted by the Association for Applied and Clinical Sociology (AACS), recognised by the USA Commission on the Accreditation of Programs in Applied and Clinical Sociology (CAPACS), and the American Sociological Association (ASA).

Alberto is Internationally considered an expert on Far Right extremism and violence, and in sport on hooliganism, crowd violence, prevention and policing. Dr Testa has also built an international reputation as an authority in the following research areas: Italian Society (Corruption and Mafia) and the Sociology of Sport (Islamophobia/Racism and sport for all/social inclusion policies).

He is a researcher of the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI has an international reputation as the leading authority on UK and international defence and security issues) ; he serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Qualitative Criminal Justice & Criminology , He is a visiting senior research fellow at the SportcomLab of the University of Bologna, Italy.

Dr. Jacco van Sterkenburg is Assistant Professor in the Department of Media & Communication and the Erasmus Research Centre for Media Communication and Culture (ERMeCC), Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Furthermore he is a Visiting Research Fellow at the Mulier Institute, a Dutch research centre for the study of sport.
For the past few years Jacco van Sterkenburg’s research has focused on race/ethnicity, gender and (dis)ability in sport media and sport policy and – management, with a specific focus on football/soccer.  Jacco’s research has gained recognition inside and outside academia and he has published a variety of books, book chapters and academic journal articles in journals such as Media Culture & Society, International Review for the Sociology of Sport, Journal of Sport and Social Issues, Soccer & Society, and Journal of Multicultural Discourses.

Dr. Daniel Burdsey is a Reader and Deputy Head of School (Research and Enterprise) in the School of Sport and Service Management at the University of Brighton, UK. His research focuses on the sociology of race, ethnicity and popular culture. It is linked fundamentally by its central theme of qualitative observational research on ethnicities as lived in public cultures/spaces, and emphasises notions of social justice, sociological intervention and academic activism. Much of his work over the last 15 years has focused on British Asian experiences in sport and his current research explores the role of physical culture among older members of British Asian communities. Dan has also spent a decade investigating race, whiteness and the English seaside, culminating in his second monograph, Race, Place and the Seaside: Postcards from the Edge (Palgrave Macmillan, 2016). Dan is well-known for his work on racism and anti-racism in English football, and this continues to be a prominent area within his research. He is the author/editor of five books and his sixth, a co-edited volume entitled Transforming Sport, will be published by Routledge in 2018.
